Inaugural Orlando Magic Outing

Memphis Grizzlies vs Orlando Magic

As young professionals, we strive for professional, civic and social development. This event will serve us well, providing an excellent opportunity to meet fellow young professionals from across the state.

Prior to the game, the Magic will host a reception for us at the Amway Arena. During this event, we will hear from popular speaker and author Pat Williams of the Magic (www.patwilliamsmotivate.com) and John Michael De Marco (www.johnmdemarco.com), chairman of Young Professionals of Brevard.

The schedule of events is as follows:

  • 5 p.m. - Reception at Amway Arena

  • 5:30 p.m. - Pat Williams

  • 6 p.m. - John Michael De Marco

  • 6:30 p.m. - Continue networking with other Florida young professionals

  • 7 p.m. - GAME TIME! See one of the NBA’s best teams in action!

  •

The game should conclude around 9 p.m.  Afterwards, feel free to go out on the town and take advantage of the many amenities that Orlando has to offer.
Discounted game tickets are $46 for lower bowl seats and $20 for upper bowl seats. If you would like to stay overnight in Orlando, the Orlando Marriott Downtown is located directly across the street from Amway Arena and very accessible to downtown. Rates are currently $129 per night, plus tax.  This rate is for quad occupancy or less.  For reservations, call 1-800-574-3160.  Ask for the young professionals rate.

If you would like to attend this event, please fill out the ticket order form and return to Wes Hollan no later than March 16, 2007.  Return instructions are located on the ticket order form.  If you have further questions, please contact Wes at 863-314-9797 or 863-202-6692.

Children’s Learning Foundation is an educational charity that helps schools by funding and creating programs that are fun and interesting for the students.  CLF funds schools that lack the supplies to educate children well.  One category of great interest of Children’s Learning Foundation, Inc. is to increase technology in both classrooms and schools.  CLF believes that the increase in technology will create a better learning environment for the students.

Everyone in CLF is a volunteer so all of the money raised goes to the right place.  We work directly with teachers to help make their projects come to life.  An explain of a great project CLF has done was when we worked with a teacher from Head Start and gave their classroom a digital camera, high-end printer, memory stick and extra printing supplies.  We also came up with ways of how they can use that technology for their students with autism and from their general classroom.

Young Professionals
Date Auction
6:30pm February 8th @ Dwyers Attic

You, as a YP member, are asked to help raise money for the USO (United Service Organizations). The USO mission is to provide morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress—and enduring style of USO delivery—is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military. The USO is not a military or government organization. You are asked to put aside any differences you may or may not have with current or past military actions to help provide the vital services of the USO to those serving in the military. Ten's of thousands of young men and women have chosen a profession which often puts them in harm's way far away from home. You can help bring a touch of home to these professionals who unlike the most of us haven't the option to return to the comfort of our own homes each night.

You can help by volunteering to have yourself auctioned to the highest bidder and or bidding on those brave enough to stand on the auction block. If you are too shy to step to the block or are unable to attend we will also have a silent auction for those who would like to help yet are not able to be stand on the auction block.

Dwyers will be donating gift cards to accompany each date. This event will be a fun and exciting YP event. Please sign up for this event in advance by emailing Marlow Miller, YP Charity Director.

Friday, July 15th Annual Membership Kickoff Party!!! Charley's Cabana Bar at Sanibel Harbour Resort

Big Blowout - larger than the one at Bahama Breeze last year.

POOL PARTY - NOON...  Sat, 16th

We're sitting by the tiki (sp?)/Pelican bar

Attire:  Business Casual (or sexy bar clothes - after all, it is a Friday night!)
Bring a swimsuit for afterward, or the pool party the next day.

Positions are now opening up for our HUGE joint event coming up on Friday, July 15th at Sanibel Harbour Resort.  We are now expecting over 600 people at Charley’s Cabana Bar from 5:30pm – 10pm that evening.  The hotel has been extensively renovated (since Hurricane Charley), especially the new bar!  The place looks great!  Rooms are now $350/night in off season.  However, they are giving us the rooms for $99/night 466-4000  or $129/night for the concierge service (concierge rooms are not at the main hotel).

Room Glitch - if reservations tells you $199/night or that there is a two-night stay, they are MISINFORMED.  You can book for one night, and do so for $99/room.  Ask to speak to Barry Brown, or call me at 481-4811 and we'll get it straightened out.  Many members have already booked rooms and have not had problems doing so since last Monday.

This will be a large membership drive, complete with a raffle, advertising blitz, etc.  Also it is a JOINT event with the Naples chapter and Port Charlotte group, as well as YR (Young Republicans), Young Lawyers, and the POLO Club.

Anyone interested in volunteering – please respond to Kristy's e-vite and/or let John Connor know:  822-6417

Feb Networking Happy Hour Thirsty Thursdays!

Finally, the beginning of Happy Hours on Thursdays!  You asked for it.  Many of you have mentioned that on Wednesdays, you have softball, you have your children, or you have some other commitment.  To accommodate you, and allow you to attend the Naples Chapter's Monthly Meetings, the Networking Happy Hours have been moved to Thursdays and renamed to match our sister chapter's events, Thirsty Thursdays.

Feb 3rd from 5:30 to 8:30 at Bonefish Grill on the NE corner of US41 and Andrea Lane (between Gladiolus/Six Mile Cypress & Daniels) in Fort Myers. The manager has us on their calendar. His only concern is that they get crowded quickly in season. So, it might be a repeat from Stonewood this month... but at least that will force us to get "together".

For questions, or greeting positions, call the event organizer, Danielle Yates, here.

WHERE:  Hammond Stadium - Friday Happy Hour Night!

Happy Hour Friday - Presented By Budweiser and B103.9 FM and Stevie Tomato's Sportspage Happy Hour Friday - From 6 until 7, get in on Happy Hour in SW Florida! Live entertainment, $1.00 Beer and Soft Drinks, plus FREE Hot Dogs and Chips & Salsa.

Tickets start at $4 at the door.  YP people are meeting at the "Beer Garden" located on the Left Hand Concourse (left field).  Play "Pass the Cup" and "Mound Ball" during the game.  Come find out for yourself!

Mound Ball Rules:  Each person in the group throws a dollar into a cup, the cup starts at one end, and works it's way around, or down the row of people, etc.  After each half inning, when the ball gets tossed back up to the pitchers mound, if the ball actually stays on the mound (the WHOLE ball must be on the mound), then the person holding the cup wins whatever is in it.  However, if the ball rolls off (which is usually what happens), then the person holding the cup throws in a dollar, and passes it on to the next person.  Simple, and keeps people half way interested in the game.

Pass the Cup Rules:  Each person in the group throws a dollar into the cup to start with.  The cup starts at one end and works its way around.  If the batter at the plate gets an out, then whomever is holding the cup must toss in a dollar and pass the cup.  However, if the batter hits a single, the person holding the cup takes out a dollar.  A double = $2, a triple = $3, and a home run = the contents of the cup, then it starts over.  If your batter does not make an out, but the inning ends (say someone gets picked off at first base), then you pass the cup, but don't put any money in it.

A fun, cozy wine tasting at Bob Goodman's home.  The YP Wine Club was formed for the purpose of taking the fun of the Blu Pepper wine tastings into a more YP environment.  Approximately once per month one of the YP members hosts a wine tasting at his or her home.  The host picks a theme (such as Merlot from $10 - $20) and each person (or couple) brings their favorite bottle within that theme.  Also each person brings $5 for the pot.  Everyone votes on the wine and the winner gets the pot.  Although the pot isn't much money, it makes it more fun (and competitive).

Come hear what is happening to the road systems in Lee County.  Our local leaders gave us a great overview.  Now come and hear the details.  Metro Transportation is the TRAFFIC engineering company that does most of the engineering for the road systems in Lee County.

Come and hear the lead engineer, Ted Treesch, speak about what is planned for the county's roads.  You may be surprised at how our money is spent, and what is actually planned, as opposed to what you would expect.

NEW DIRECTIONS:

Since we’ve not invited the Cape Coral City Water Department to the wine tasting, they’ve decided to unearth the paths that lead to the house.  The house is still at the same address, but the roads leading to it have morphed into a rubble and sand.  Kinda looks like Bagdad in the right light.  Anyway, if you can forward the directions below to anyone you can remember that have RSVP’d, I’d greatly appreciate it.

If coming from Cape Coral Parkway toward Chiquita Blvd, go RIGHT on Chiquita.
Then look for SW 43rd St and take it LEFT.
Take the first LEFT onto SW 16th Place,
Then first RIGHT onto SW 43rd Terrace.
Ok, take a breath, you’re almost there…..
This turns left about a block down and becomes SW 18th Ave which leads you to SW 44th St.
The house will be on the right.

We’ll put some balloons in the yard or start a fire and do smoke signals or something to get your attention.

You’ll also be greeted at the door with a tablet of Dramamine (Extra Strength-Non Drowsy Formula

Yes, we still attend the wine tastings the second Wednesday of the month at Blu Pepper on College & US41 in Fort Myers.  See "Monthly Events" below for details.

Lee County Chapter Kick-Off!!

Fort Myers

LOCATION:  Bahama Breeze on US41 & Six Mile Cypress Parkway (Gladiolus), an outparcel of the Home Depot parking lot.

DETAILS:  Despite what was noted on the front page of the "Business & Money" section of the News Press today (Thurs, Jan 22nd), this is not a typical "meeting."  There won't be any sitting down, or being quiet, or any listing to boring speeches.

The Kick-Off is more of a business networking event / party.  You can arrive any time between 5:30pm and 8:30pm, and of course, leave when you wish.  Many of us we'll be there until at least 10pm.

Come, meet some new people, and find out about the group and about upcoming events.

HISTORY & REASON FOR KICK-OFF: The group was originally one 500+ organization that has grown exponentially since its creation in March of 2002.  As a result of the wide geographical area in which members live, we recently broke the original group up into four chapters.  The Naples Chapter launched on November 21st, with a turnout of approximately 200 people.  Since that time, they have consistently had turnouts of 50 - 100 people.

Believe it or not, the Naples group is the smaller of the two.  Of the original group, approximately 70% is from the Lee County area.  As a result, we are expecting at least 400 young professionals at this event.

The purpose of the Kick-Off is celebrate the Chapter's launch.  However, the main point of the networking event, is to meet new friends and clients, and to make sure all potential and new members feel welcome.  There will be more than 10 greeters, including:

Jeremy Sposato, Club 1527
Eddie Sheridan, Eddie Fishbowls
Jeff Tellin, Beasely Broadcasting
Dave Roberts, FOX4 News
Jimmy Roncinske, Special Secret Agent Undercover  :)
Brian Strzyz, The Boat Guy, Century 21 Sunbelt

Dan & Kim Sinclair's Home.  6840 Dabney Street, Fort Myers, FL  (239) 939-2465 (Anik)

Each person please bring $5/person, AND each couple please bring your favourite bottle (i.e. one bottle/couple) of red wine.  The next wine tasting following this will be a tasting of whites.  After that we will separate out into Merlot's, Cabernet's, Zinfandel's, etc. and move the wine tastings around from one member's home to another.  We are open for where to hold the next wine tasting (December or January).

The money goes to cover the hors 'oeuvres.  The money left over will go into a pot.  Based on the tasters in attendance, the pot will go to the person who brought the bottle the tasters voted the best.

There has been a great response on this one.

Directions:

Take Six Mile Cypress North from Daniels Parkway to Penzance
When you hit the Slough Preserve take a LEFT onto Penzanze (rather than a right).
Follow the road to the end and around to the Right onto Ranchette.
Take Ranchette all the way North until it turns.  Instead of turning, continue STRAIGHT (onto Highland) until you hit the trees.
Although there is no sign, when you hit the trees, you're at Dabney Street.  Make a RIGHT onto Dabney.
We're the third house on the RIGHT, 6840

Hash House Harriers Monthly Run

Naples, FL

Hash #15 this Saturday, October 25th.

The trail will start at Pelican Larry's on Pine Ridge Road (Old Larry's) at 4:00 PM. Count on beer, more beer, some running, probably some more beer, off-color humor, beer, and generally deplorable behavior.  The cost for this bi-weekly binge is $5. Cheap, huh?

BUT....virgin hashers (ie those that have never hashed before) get to enjoy all this for FREE! Even cheaper!

The hash details (distance, trail, etc) will be covered at the start by our "hare" for the day:  Highballs.

Wear: running clothes, OLD shoes, and a smile.

Expect: to have a lot of fun and meet some very interesting people.

Bring: your sense of humor and a whistle.  Questions? Call Mullet at 289-9445 or Highballs at 290-2750.

Oh yeah..after the hash there will be an 80's themed party at Highballs' house. Wear your Members Only jacket and one white glove. A special prize will be awarded to the geek who gets into it the most.

Hope to see you there!

You must RSVP Lori by 5pm tomorrow if you are coming, so she can determine the amount of food she needs to get.
Also, we will be short on WINE GLASSES.  Please bring your favourite wine glass.

Celeb riders include - Downtown Dive (who is also my roommate for the weekend), Judd Cribbs from WINK and Krista ? from FOX 4 News. It's a safe assumption that if they are celeb riders they will bring the cameras.  96 K Rock will be doing a live remote for us also.

Forgot to tell you - if any YP members do not want to ride off the beach, DiamondHead is offering a room rate of $79 - not bad since you can sleep 4-6 people. They would need to call 765-7654, ask for group sales and say they are with the POLO Club.

The charity is Healthy Start, which is the organization I work for. Healthy Start provides services to pregnant women and infants who are at risk of poor health and developmental outcomes. We were actually the beneficiaries of this past weekend's City Tavern Golf Tourney.

Cost:  POLO Club charges $20 for everyone- riders and walkers - they get a tee shirt and can take advantage of the drink specials.  I suppose if it became an issue we could consider lowering the cost - maybe to $10.
